After walking away from a four point loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl, the 49ers will be coming back this season stronger than ever, and with a leader like starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick, going to the Super Bowl again this season seems like a strong possibility. Kaepernick is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league and all the experience that he gained last season will be very useful as he directs the team’s offense. Kaepernick definitely had the athleticism last season, completing 62% of his passes, accounted for 15 touchdowns and finished with a quarterback rating of 98 during the regular season. In the playoffs, he was even more impressive with just two turnovers and a quarterback rating of over 100.

Kaepernick spent a season and a half on the sidelines learning about the detailed points of the game and watching how the team worked together, once he stepped in halfway through the season, he was prepared and ready to lead the team. Not only does he have the skills needed, but he is also very determined. Taking barely any time off before his offseason training in Atlanta, Kaepernick explains that he is trying to be the “complete package." Since he will be entering the 2013 season as a full-time starter for the first time in his NFL career, he knew that he had to get back to work right away following the Super Bowl loss. He has been putting a lot of his focus on improving his speed by training with track athletes and speedy teammates. General Manager Trent Baalke wants Kaepernick to focus on techniques, footwork, and lower-body mechanics.   When talking about the quarterback, he says, “there’s no harder worker."

The whole team is definitely still feeling the sting of the Super Bowl loss, but Kaepernick is determined to lead this team yet again to the Super Bowl. “Hopefully we’re in the same position next year and finish it the right way,” he said. It just goes to show that when a team gives a young quarterback time to grow before moving him into a starting position, that he will come out with the athletic and leadership ability that a team needs in order to be successful.
